Dr. Peter Bringewald is a Board Certified Ophthalmic Surgeon
who specializes in Neuro-ophthalmology (the branch of Medicine that
addresses Neurological Diseases that manifest themselves through the
eye, either with visual or eye movement difficulties.) He has worked
in association with Dr. Lazar for over 30 years. Together, Drs.
Bringewald and Lazar have accumulated one of the largest series of
Orbital Tumors in the United States as well as a large series of
Pituitary and Skull Base Tumors.
Dr. Bringewald attended Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and then Ohio
State University from which he graduated with Honors (Bachelor of
Mechanical Engineering, 1959). He completed his initial medical
education program at Ohio State College of Medicine (M.D., 1964) where
he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed
his Rotating Internship at Henry Ford Hospital (Detroit, 1965) after
which he joined the U.S. Air Force as a Flight Surgeon until 1967. He
completed his Residency in Ophthalmology (1973) at the University of
Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas as well as receiving
training in the Department of Neurology at that University. Dr.
Bringewald completed a two year Fellowship program during which he was
a National Institute of Health Fellow at the University of Texas at
Dallas' Callier Speech and Hearing Institute as well as a Fellow in
Neuro-ophthalmology at the University of California at San Francisco
under the supervision of Dr. William Hoyt. Dr. Bringewald returned to
Dallas serving as a Faculty member (Assistant Professor) in the
Departments of Ophthalmology Neurology and Neurosurgery until July
1977 after which he entered Private Practice in association with
Neurosurgeons, Drs. Lazar and Bland and Neurologist, Dr. Allan
Naarden.
Dr. Bringewald is a Fellow of the North American
Neuro-ophthalmological Association, an educator and a frequent
lecturer and teacher on Neuro-ophthalmologic topics. He is the author
of scientific articles which have been published in several different
peer reviewed medical journals.
